In response to the above request, we have heard from Janet Hayward, the daughter of C.W. Comerford, with some details about the artist, together with some of his work. Janet wrote as follows:
My name is Janet Hayward nee Comerford, C. W. Comerford was my dad, he died in 1961. He was a brilliant pen and ink artist and he worked at the Foreign Office Press HMSO London as a bookbinder which he was also very good at.
My father, who liked to be known as Bill, originally came from Tottenham, Turnpike Lane to be exact, but moved to a flat in Ealing when he married. I often think I would like to go back there, but people say don’t go, it has changed so much, it isn’t the Ealing of the Fifties, and I would be upset.
He was in the RAF based at Wellington in Shropshire as a PT instructor and other duties. My mum and I as a baby were evacuated to Fairford, near Cirencester, Gloucestershire so I don’t think he had too far to come when on leave.
My parents lived in Watlington Road, and my father loved gardening, roses and sweet peas being his favourites. He hated cars and would never have learnt to drive. He loved his bike and was a member of the Cyclists Touring Club, also a member of Barnet Harriers touring club. He was a gymnast when young with his friend Alf Willis, they did displays in the parks in London. He was also a very good swimmer and diver, something I never accomplished as I hate the water.

The works by C W Commerford are absolutely brilliant, as presented by his daughter Janet a wonderful woman I am yet to know.
