VE Day (Victory in Europe) – Tuesday 8th May 1945
A Yellow Advertiser newspaper cutting dated 19th May 1995, tells the story of a lady by the name of Edna Batchford who found a forgotten snap on the top of her wardrobe. Mrs Batchford remembers the party, which she says was paid for by the Layzell family, who owned a ironmongers shop in the nearby London Road.
After the publication of the photo, the newspaper recalls there was an ‘overwhelming response from readers’. A further photo was printed in the following edition.
All the photos below were also taken at the same event.

These photos are very interesting. The VE Day photo including adults sitting under the Union Jack includes my grandparents Bert and Nellie Lazell. They are 1st and 3rd from the left of the adults sitting down. One of your contributors says they paid for the party. Maybe !
