Church Hall/Salvation Army Hall

Do You Have A Photo?

Previous location of the hall

We are currently trying to find information/photos of a church hall that stood on the London Road, close to Tarpots but was demolished approximately 25 years ago.

The hall was located on the south side of the London Road, close to Southwold Crescent and was used by The Salvation Army for meetings some years ago.

If you have any memories or photos of this building, we would be very pleased to hear from you.  We can be contacted by e mail: info@benfleethistory.org.uk  or by the comments section at the bottom of this page.

Update Dec 2020:  A search of Castle Point planning applications showed that the hall was demolished in 2003/2004. A detached house was approved for the site at 178 London Road, Benfleet.

  • I remember taking my son (now aged 31) to a birthday party there in the early 1990’s.
It was your typical Church hall, I think there may have been a stage at the far end.

  • This was my nursery in the early 80’s. I remember the bikes and we used to go around and around the building and if we were really lucky, the big bike. We had orange juice or bottles of milk at snack time and we had reading in a smaller building at the back. I remember doing work experience there in the 90’s, reading to the toddlers… this inspired me to become a teacher. I remember Mrs Sullivan was the playgroup leader and she was absolutely lovely.

  • I and my brothers attended this hall in the 1950s, where we went to Sunday school. My brother John Cripps played in the band. I also went to Brownies there and my youngest brother Leon King was baptised there.
