Now at rest in St. Mary Churchyard, South Benfleet. We know from information on his headstone that he died on 13 December 1952. He would have served in HMS Aphis on the Danube 1917-1919 mine sweeping, captured a ship manned by Bolsheviks and carrying Prince Alexander and private paperwork. I cannot find any other info it is still covered by secrecy act.
It seems he was born in 1891 so died at the age of 61.
I believe his wife was French and she died in Tours in 1930. Her name was Louise Blanc.
His name was spelled Laurence and he was awarded the order of the white eagle – 5th class by the King of Serbia in the First World War. His son was Sgt. Ronald Paul Wightman RAFVR who was killed in action at the age of 20.
