  • Saw your note, moves are being made to re-open the church as a place of worship see Evening Echo Southend. Will try and put some flowers there and send you a picture ex ACC chef!

  • My name is Peter Watts and our family were great friends of the Gray family. I knew both Donald and Tony very well indeed, as we lived just round the corner from them in Pound Lane. Don actually attended my eldest sister Joan’s (deceased) wedding at North Benfleet church in 1942 where I was then a choirboy. Don was a terrific young chap and always friendly to us younger lads.

It is a great pity that there is no physical (joint) memorial for all the young men from North Benfleet that lost their lives in WW2. I know of at least four. At age 82 now and living in Queensland Australia I will unfortunately never be able to visit their graves.
