Geraldine Norris (nee Green) emailed us from Australia in connection with the artist Will Maile and her parents, Bert and Clarice.
She writes :- “I was born in Benfleet in 1948 on the houseboat Veronica , which was moored in Church Creek. My parents Bert and Clarice Green were very active at St Mary’s Church – my dad was church warden and cub akela and mum taught Sunday school and was Brown Owl of the Brownies pack. They were also active in the church dramatic society. When my parents left Benfleet in 1970 to move to Rhodesia, they were presented with an oil painting of the church, the painter was Will Maile (see Art and Artists ). I still have the painting in my home on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.”

This brings back a few memories. I think the Rev. is Alex Banks who conducted the wedding of my wife (Heather Stevens) and I in 1969. Geraldine Norris (Nee Green – 2nd lady from left) married Martin Norris (Policeman) who crewed for me a couple of times at Benfleet YC. Jackie Newman (Nee Green – 2nd lady from right – seem to remember she was an ex. Television Topper or Tiller Girl dancer?) married Barry Newman who acted as our solicitor when we moved from Essex to Surrey.
We were all members of the yacht club.
