This entry is unusual in that we are aware of his paintings of Benfleet through newspaper reports, but do not have a sample to display. The fact that he lived in the High Road and took up painting in his retirement is the sum total of our knowledge. Please feel free to enlighten us and if you have a picture of his, we would love to scan it on to our website.

Harold Mitchell is my father. If you care to contact me in the New Year, I will endeavour to find some examples of his work. His sister was Gladys Bingham who also is on your site
Editor – Thanks, Janet. The Archive would be very interested to display samples of his work.
I’m Harold’s son, Keith and live in Benfleet next door to my sister Janet. I have a few of his pictures in my loft, if you are still interested. He and his wife Marian started Benfleet Operatic Society in the 1950s and it carries on today, struggling to stay afloat despite increasing rising costs. He was better known for his paintings in Suffolk and held several exhibitions in and around Aldeburgh, where he sold most of his work.
Editor – We would be very interested to display digital copies on the BCA site. We are able to scan items.
