An Accident on Vicarage Hill

And it wasn't even winter

It must have been in the early 1970s when I chanced on this accident on a very leafy Vicarage Hill. I never found out what had happened, but the Fire Brigade attended and sprayed the ground, righted the upside-down car and manoeuvered it onto a trailer.

Before Essex Way there was Vicarage Hill and I have been told that in winter bus passengers to Southend had to get off at the bottom and re-join at the top for safety reasons. Early last century there were signs at the top of both Vicarage Hill and Bread and Cheese Hill warning penny-farthing cyclists of the steep gradient ahead.

Did it drive up or did it come down?

How did someone manage to do this?

And in broad daylight?

Spray the flammable substances.

Let's try it another way.

All together now. Even a Policeman had to help.
Robert Hallman
Almost there.
