The page previously added, showing the Tornado passing through Benfleet Station on the 6th October 2012, claimed that this would be the last steam drawn train to pass over the 100 year old Ferry Road bridge before the bridge is replaced between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve 2012.
However a sharp-eyed reader, Ellen Hume (thank you Ellen, it’s nice to know that the site is attracting readers), submitted a comment to correct that claim. I therefore felt that I should capture what really will be the last steam drawn train to cross the old bridge.
A New Livery for Tornado
The result is this page. As stated in Ellen’s comment the train was due to be pulled by the loco “Britannia” but at some stage, for reasons that I am not aware of, this was changed to be the ‘Tornado’. Between its previous appearance and this one the ‘Tornado’ has been repainted in its current very smart blue livery.

Ellen, thank you for adding your comment, pleased you liked the video. Maybe, if you are lucky enough to go on the trip to Bath, you could take some pictures or video as you go through Benfleet; I would be very happy to add them to the website.
Couldn’t let you miss the last train Frank:) I saw the Tornado being “towed” by diesel to Southend earlier from the Downs Saturday…wish I could have seen her coming through the station on the way to London – the video is great. The next steam train excursion on the c2c line will be in March which will be going to Bath and Bristol – am seriously thinking of going on that trip!!
