How I Was Saved From The London Blitz

My parents were living in Greenwich South London in 1940, in Tunnel Avenue; the blitz had started on the 7th September.  My parents were living in a block of maisonettes.

A bomb dropped in the courtyard of the block and Mr Aruth Reevs I believe was at home and he said to his wife Katherine and my mother, pack up some clothes for the two families, what can be carried, and he would take them to his mother’s in Benfleet, Essex (Watlington Road). My Dad I believe was on night work and Mr Reevs told Dad when came home.

Somehow my Mum & Dad managed to find a bungalow to rent in Thundersley, it was Pine Villa, now known as 14, Warren Chase. I grew up there from the age 2-34.  Mr & Mrs Reevs had a daughter, Marion, at the time of the move from London and a son, Richard, was born in Benfleet and another son, Jamey.

Mr & Mrs Reevs were keen supporters of the Methodist Church, as is their son Richard to this day.
