1928 -1932
R B Brittain started road haulage in conjunction with his building business.
1932
National Parcels & Goods Services formed. Parcel services commenced between Essex and London with 2 vans.
1933
Road & Rail Traffic Act – 9 vehicles applied for and granted as “claimed tonnage” on an “A” licence.
1939
“A” licensed fleet: 9 vehicles “B” licence: 1 vehicle
1939 – 1945
Commenced operating articulated vehicles, also activities in specialised heavy haulage started. Took over business of C.M. Bone.
1946
Took over larger premises for workshop. “A” licensed fleet now 11 vehicles and 3 trailers. “B” licence: 1 vehicle.
1947 – 1951
Activities curtailed by Transport Act, but designation of 3 operating centres and granting of permits allowed the business to carry on in the main as before.
1953
Took over business of Geo. Jacob & Son, founded in 1888.
“A” licensed fleet now 28 vehicles and 8 trailers.
“B” licensed fleet now 2 vehicles and 1 trailer. Built shop for building and painting vehicles. Built new loading bank.
1954
Built new warehouse for storage of customers’ goods.
Extended new loading bank.
Essex Carriers employees formed Essex Carriers Cricket Club.
1955
Essex Carriers Ltd. formed to take over activities of National Parcels & Goods Services.
Built new offices over loading bank.
“A” licensed fleet now 30 vehicles and 10 trailers.
“B” licensed fleet 2 vehicles and 1 trailer.

Extension of stores and workshop.
Our endeavour will be to continually improve our facilities for handling and delivery of customers’ goods, both in “smalls” and heavy low loader activities.
